Emission factors, weighed at the source.
Mizani Carbon publishes the numbers behind Kenya's carbon reports, straight from the regulator's own publications. Every value is traced to its document, page and release, so your IFRS S2 report, your platform or your AI agent can cite it and defend it.

Who we are
Mizani is Swahili for the scales.
The instrument that weighs things fairly. Mizani Carbon publishes the emission factors African companies need to weigh their climate impact honestly: taken from the region's own official sources and traceable to the page. We start with Kenya.
What we do
We turn official publications, such as EPRA's statistics reports and the IPCC guidelines, into versioned, machine-readable emission factors. Each value keeps its source document, page, file fingerprint and the code that produced it.
Why we exist
Global carbon tools often cover Africa with old or generic numbers. For Kenya's grid, the value they serve dates from 2014 and is 4.7 times EPRA's own figure. As IFRS S2 reporting arrives, companies need numbers an auditor can trace, not a default nobody can source.
Who it's for
Companies reporting under IFRS S2 in Kenya, the consultancies preparing their reports, banks and SACCOs, and the carbon-accounting platforms that need a data source to cite.
What we're not
Not another dashboard, and not a reseller of licensed data. We're the reference other tools cite: public, versioned, and better with every official release.
Kenya: grid electricity for every EPRA period, fuels and refrigerants. API, Google Sheets, AI agents and downloads.
Transport factors, and each release's fingerprint published on a public blockchain so anyone can check a file without trusting us.
More African countries, each built from its own official sources, with a methodology anyone can read.
Why the source matters
A stale default doesn't just date your report. It inflates it.
Global carbon tools still serve Kenya a 2014 value, 0.274 kg CO₂e/kWh (Climatiq, ADEME Base Carbone v23.9). That is 4.7 times what EPRA publishes today.
EPRA publishes Kenya's grid emission factor twice a year. Tools that fall back on an old international value overstate Scope 2 for every Kenyan kWh.

Try it
What the wrong number costs you.
Enter a year of electricity. See your Scope 2 on EPRA's current factor, and on the old default many tools still use.
An illustration: your kWh times each factor. EPRA's factor counts CO₂ per kWh generated; the comparison value is CO₂e. For your report, use the API or the factor page, which carry the citation.
Provenance
Every number carries its paper trail.
Follow the headline figure from the regulator's PDF to the sentence in your report. Every factor in every release has the same trail, and none of it can change after publication.

Why now
Kenya's IFRS S2 clock is running.
Climate disclosures under IFRS S2 phase in over three years. Each year, more Kenyan companies will need Scope 2 figures that an auditor can trace back to a source. The first reporting periods start in 94 days.
- 2026Get ready
Put a data trail in place before the first reporting period begins.
- 2027Public interest entities
Accounting periods starting on or after 1 January 2027.
- 2028Large non-PIEs
Large companies that are not public interest entities follow.
- 2029SMEs
Small and medium-sized entities complete the phase-in.
How we work
Four rules we never break.
Official first
Where a Kenyan authority publishes a factor, we publish exactly that, with its citation. Our own recalculation is a check, never a replacement.
Provenance, or it doesn't ship
Every value names its document, page, file hash, the code and commit that produced it, and its release. No trail, no number.
Releases never change
The database refuses edits to published data. Corrections ship as a new release, with a changelog entry and a link to what they replace.
Every gas, kept apart
CO₂, CH₄, N₂O and HFCs are stored separately, CO₂e says which GWP it uses, and biogenic CO₂ is never folded into the total.
